Spice-Rubbed Pulled Pork

September 15, 2014momstownRecipeNo comments
A killer recipe for an easy, user friendly, versatile, absolutely mouth watering, you’ll cry when it’s gone, pulled pork. Courtesy of our friend and food enthusiast extraordinaire, Food Nurd.

Description:

When I saw the pulled pork sandwich posted on Food Nurd's Instagram page, I knew I needed it. I believe my exact words were, "Tell me how I can get this. I need it. I need it now. I found my happy place. I will east this everynight." I wasn't wrong. This recipe is a stunner. If you want everyone to think you're a boss in the kitchen, this will do it. You, your kids, your mom, your neighbour, your girlfriends, everyone will rave about your culinary skills. So get to work, well only a little work, because it's simple too. But don't tell anyone else that.

Ingredients:

3-4LB Pork Butt
1/4 Cup of Water
1/2 TSP Liquid Smoke (optional)
1 1/2 Cup BBQ Sauce (your choice)
1 Lime
Rub (ingredients on foodnurd.com)

Visit Food Nurd's website for the simple step by step instructions, with photos, that beautifully walk you through the recipe.

A few of my favourite things about the prep:

The recipe can be made ahead of time. You can apply the rub and let it sit for up to 24hrs.

The actual preparation involves the beloved slow-cooker. Set it, forget it and come back 8 hours later to your tasty creation.

The recipe mentions Liquid Smoke, which may be intimidating. It is optional, bit I highly recommend it. Don't let it scare you! It can be found at Loblaws and most other grocers in the aisle with the BBQ sauces. Give it try. You won't regret it.

How the Kids Can Help

Pre-measure the spices for the rub. Let the kids pour the spices into an empty spice jar, and have them shake, shake, shake it up. If they like to get their hands dirty you have them help rub the spice onto the pork too 🙂
