What We’re Listening to: Indie Music for Kids

October 3, 2014momstownFamily Life, Parenting, Preschooler, ToddlersNo comments
Bridging the gap between music that’s fun for kids and something that won’t drive mom and dad insane isn’t always easy. Here are some of our current favourites that sound like they may actually hit an adult play list once in awhile.

Song: Imaginary Friend  (listen here)

Artist: Secret Agent 23 Skidoo

This one has been on repeat. Super fun, super catchy. If you're like us you'll be competing to see who can remember the words and sing along to the chorus first. Makes everyone happier on long car rides…or even short car rides.

Song: Are there Any Kids Names Steve Anymore (listen here)

Artist: Peter Himmelman

This song is a hilarious nod to us parents. My kids like to listen to all the names in the song, and listen for any they recognize, a la, Romper Room. It has us recalling all the Steves, Mikes, Daves and Adams we know…

Song: See You On The Moon (listen here)

Artist: Great Lake Swimmers – CANADIAN

Always love when we can brag about our Canadian talent. One of my favourite Canadian bands recorded this track exclusively for a kids album. It lists a lot of fun jobs from astronaut, to farmer, to singer.

Song: On Top Of The World (listen here)

Artist: Imagine Dragons

You're hearing this in a lot of different places on shows, films and commercials, but all for good reason. It's an upbeat, feel food, going to smile song. It'll be on my playlist for awhile yet.

Song: House Party Time (listen here)

Artist: Dan Zanes

I love this song. I love Dan Zanes. He was a member of the popular, grammy award winning band the Del Fuegos in the 80's. He had a baby, and his focus shifted, luckily for us, his music didn't. He's as cool as he is talented.
