If you opened every diaper bag or looked in the stroller of every baby you meet on the street, chances are, there you would find Sophie the Giraffe. Having a baby shower for your first child? You'll get three of them.
And she's wonderful, a miracle toy. It always amazes me how universally Sophie works – all babies, almost all of the time.
So, I hopped online to see just where Sophie comes from, and what is the magic behind this famous little giraffe.
"Sophie la Girafe" orignated in France in 1961, and is still the same today, produced by a company named Vulli who first introduced Sophie to Europe then brought her to the rest of the world.
Why Sophie Works
While she looks like a simple rubber toy, the secret of Sophie's success lies in her ability to stimulate baby's senses. As baby's sight develops, Sophie becoming a reassuring and familiar sight. Easy grip for little hands, lots of parts that are perfectly chewable for teething gums, a fun squeak. It all just comes together!
