Down around the portlands, it's a bit confusing and you'll never just stumble on the places you want to go. Don't let that stop you though, along with places like Tommy Thompson Park (Leslie Spit) and Corktown Common, Cherry Beach is a great spot to visit for a little summer getaway in the city.
275 Unwin Avenue, foot of Cherry St, in the Portlands
Funny, this is one that we haven’t really thought of a lot in considering trips to the beach, but it's cute. One a day that's not busy, there's plenty of parking and its a great little spot in the city that doesn't feel like the city. Very popular for the off-leash dog park right there too.
TIP: water is rocky bottom near the shore so keep little ones shoes on. Don't let that dissuade you though, its a nice spot for kids to splash around.
How to get there: Cherry Beach is located at the bottom of Cherry Street. You may remember the Docks from days gone by and it seems like there's nothing much down there, but just keep going south towards the water. By public transportation, there is bus service during beach season, check the TTC for route options.
Has: Parking, Summer TTC bus service right to beach, washrooms, lifeguard station, off-leash dog park.
