October 10, 2014momstownBaby, ToddlersNo comments
Babbling quickly turns into words, so if you’re wondering what words you should focus on teaching your little one, here’s a list of 50 first words that will help your toddler learn to communicate.

After you cross everyone's favourite mumma and dadda off the list, there are lot of words to teach baby.   Labelling, or teaching words for things and objects you interact with, is easy, and there are also a lot of action and descriptive words that are easier than others for baby to add to their vocabulary.

Here are some to try:

hello/ goodbye

run/ walk

big/ small

fast/ slow

yes/ no

open/ close

please/ thank you

help

come

look/see

gone

again

more

done

yummy/ yucky

eat/ drink

up/ down

loud/ quiet

sleep

on/ off

happy/ sad

funny

play

here/ there

wash

dirty/ clean

go/ stop

give

hot/ cold

kiss/ hug

read

tickle

TIP:  Wondering how many words to expect and when?  According to Babycenter, by 18 mos baby can be speaking 5, understanding up to 50, from 18-24 mos – speaking 50-75, understanding 200 and will start putting simple words together.
